Come and visit us now – Pori is a great place to spend your holidays getting to know new things
All eyes are already on summer and holiday planning is in full swing. Many people are looking for ideas at the Helsinki Exhibition Centre's Travel Fair, where Visit Pori will also be present from 18-21 January 2024.The Pori Tourism Year 2024 will consist of familiar domestic tourism favourites and events, but there will also be new attractions.
In the top destination of Yyteri, a new, architecturally stunning information building will be completed during the summer and will serve as a gateway for visitors to the Yyteri area. The building will house important services for visitors, such as year-round toilets and tourist information for the area. In addition, the building will be used as an exhibition space for the Bothnian Sea National Park and the nature of Yyteri. The open and impressive building, made of CLT wood elements, is an attraction in itself.
Already familiar to many Finns, the unique Yyteri offers sun worship and beach fun on Natura-protected dunes. A particular favourite with families with children, Yyteri now offers a wide range of activities from nature trails to an adventure park, in addition to beach activities. Yyteri is Finland’s first beach category destination to be awarded the international Blue Flag sustainability certificate.
This year, look out again for Eteläranta, which will open to visitors in summer 2024 after a major renovation. The area is known as the home of the riverfront and old stone buildings and one of Pori’s most recognisable places, where the best of the city can be captured in stunning shots. From Eteläranta, you can easily reach Pori city centre, Kirjurinluoto or the Puuvillatehdas area on the north side of the Kokemäenjoki River.
The range of events continues to expand
Last year, Pori experienced new events and the traditional main events attracted record crowds. In 2024, there will be something new again.
The Lovers Theatre will organise a new international street theatre and city festival on 26-28 June. The programme will include international and national street theatre performances, workshops for children and young people, and evening clubs. The event will coincide with SuomiAreena just after Midsummer. As usual, SuomiAreena will be spread out in the centre of Pori. There will be social debates and entertainment in appropriate proportions and free of charge for the public. The week will culminate in the Iskelmä Festival, which this year will feature Kaija Koo, Ellinoora, BEHM and Eppu Normaali together with Iiro Rantala.
After a week of respite, the rhythms of Pori Jazz take over the city. Jazz will be celebrated around mid-July and artist bookings are eagerly awaited. Between July and August, Pori’s joyfully uncluttered line-up of artists will delight in the likes of Lauri Tähka, Haloo Helsinki and the returning Don Huonas. In late August, Reposaari will host the eerily beautiful Sensommar Filmfest, which has already been a great success for the second time.
New tourism publication brings together Yyteri and other tourist attractions in Pori
The tourism brochures for the Pori and Yyteri regions, which have been produced separately in previous years, will be combined into a separate tourism publication this year. In 2024, the things to do and see in the Pori region will be on one cover in the form of a tourism magazine. Pori’s tourism tips will also be available online at a single address when the visityyteri.fi website is merged into visitpori.fi early this year. Pori’s new tourism marketing campaign, to be launched in spring 2024, will also contribute to bringing Yyteri and Pori’s other tourist destinations even closer together.
You don’t spend your whole holiday in Pori when there is always a destination, if not a third, nearby. Welcome to Matkamessu to find out more or check out the new tourism publication. Visit Pori’s stand at Matkamessu is part of the Finnish Archipelago (6n2).
