
International overnight stays show clear growth in Pori
The total number of overnight stays and accommodation sales in Pori increased in 2024. The largest growth was seen in overnight stays by international tourists, which rose by 30% in registered accommodation establishments compared to the previous year.

In 2024, the number of overnight stays in Pori showed clear growth compared to the previous year. Total overnight stays reached 334,000, up from 301,000 in 2023. Registered accommodation establishments accounted for 74% of all overnight stays, while unregistered accommodations (such as Airbnb and Vrbo) made up 26%. The number of overnight stays surpassed pre-pandemic levels.
International overnight stays show clear growth
Overnight stays by domestic travelers in registered accommodations increased by 1%, while international overnight stays saw a significant growth of 30%. For the first time in Pori’s overnight stay statistics history, the number of registered international overnight stays exceeded 30,000, reaching 36,700. Domestic travelers stayed an average of 1.6 nights (+1%), and international travelers stayed an average of 3.6 nights (+1%) in registered accommodations. The highest numbers of international visitors came from Germany, Sweden, Poland, Denmark, Spain, France, and Latvia.
– We have participated in several international joint marketing campaigns targeting Germany and attended B2B travel sales events, where we have met buyers interested in the offerings of Finland’s west coast. It’s clear that our efforts are starting to pay off, says tourism expert Maria Rasmussen.
Business travel is increasing, and unregistered accommodation is becoming more popular
The increase in overnight stays is partly driven by the growth of business travel. Business travelers spent 99,500 nights in registered accommodations, a 7% increase from the previous year. Leisure travelers accounted for 147,000 overnight stays (+2%).
The number of registered accommodations and available beds in Pori has remained relatively stable for years. However, the occupancy rate of registered rooms increased from 50% to 53% compared to the previous year. The popularity of unregistered accommodations (such as Airbnb and Vrbo) has continued to grow, with an increasing supply of such options.
Pori’s total accommodation sales reached €18.4 million. Registered accommodation sales accounted for €15.2 million (+3%), while unregistered accommodation sales totaled €3.2 million, marking a significant 33% increase.
– Tourism is an important industry and a significant employer in Pori. In 2023, the total tourism impact was €140.52 million, with direct employment of 481 full-time equivalent jobs. The tourism revenue data for 2024 is expected by summer, says Rasmussen.
