Artificial ice rinks now open – first ski tracks gradually becoming skiable
Winter sports opportunities will increase in Pori since both ice rinks are now open. In addition, the so-called "lammen lenkki" of the Porin metsä ski trails will be ready for skiing from this day forward.
Liisankatu Ice rink in the city centre
The racquetless area is located at the end of the maintenance building (Liisankatu) and the racquet area at the other end of the field (Mikonkatu). As the ice is used for both racquetless and racquet sports, the division of areas must be respected to ensure the safety of skaters. The use of pucks on the Liisantori is still prohibited.
The Liisantori artificial ice rink is open 24 hours a day, free of charge and based on the principle of local exercise. However, visitors should note that the lights are on from 7 am to 9.30 pm. The changing rooms in the maintenance building will open later in the winter.
The ice is maintained three times a day on weekdays, and twice a day on weekends. During maintenance periods, the rink must be absolutely empty. For more information on the Liisantori artificial ice, please visit the city’s website (only in Finnish).
Public access to the ice rink at the Sports Centre (Urheilukeskus) is also available to all. The only exception is Sunday, when there will be separate shifts for skaters with hockey sticks.
The first ski tracks are about to be completed
In November, you can also ski in Porin metsä. The so-called route “lammen lenkki” is now completed, and work has also started on a one-kilometre route. Snow will be piled on the slopes as soon as the weather permits.
Up-to-date information on the condition of the tracks can be found at the Pori Outdoor Sports Conditions Service at https://pori.sometec.fi.
Once the tracks have been completed, access from open air swimming pool to the Katinkuru path will be from the north side of the tennis courts and walking along the track through the swimming pool area is prohibited.
Ice rink in Isomäki is now open for clubs and public.
Ice use for the allocated club shifts have started on Monday 13 November. The general skating shifts are for both stick and non-stick skating. Only Sunday’s public skating time is divided into separate shifts for skating with and without skates. On Sunday, the non-mallet shift will be from 15.30 to 17.00, and the mallet shift will be from 17.00 to 19.00.
