Pori will award local World Floorball Championship medalists on Wednesday, January 22

Finland won the Men’s Floorball World Championship in December 2024. This historic victory also brought the first-ever floorball World Championship gold medalists from Pori.

World champions Juuso Ahola and Eemeli Akola will be awarded on Wednesday, January 22, during the Karhut-SalBa match at Sports Hall of Pori. In addition to being celebrated by their home club, they will also be recognized by the City of Pori.

The city’s award will be presented by Mayor Lauri Inna, City Council Chair Arja Laulainen, and City Council Member Ismo Läntinen. On behalf of Akola, who plays in Växjö, Sweden, the award will be accepted by his mother, Hanna Akola.

– It’s fantastic that the world champion team included players with ties to Pori. Ahola and Akola highlighted Pori and its community multiple times during the tournament, leaving no doubt about where this duo comes from. It’s wonderful that the players can be awarded during a game event, where the floorball community gathers to enjoy an exciting local derby, said Sports Unit Manager Petteri Lahti.

The award ceremony will take place around 6:20 PM, just before the game begins. The World Championship trophy will also be on display throughout the event. Karhut has advised attendees to arrive early, as tickets are limited.
