Talviklassikko causes temporary changes at Liisantori ice rink
Preparations for the Talviklassikko outdoor hockey game, to be held at the artificial ice rink of Pori Sports Center on January 24–25, are in full swing this week. Due to event arrangements, the artificial ice rink at Liisantori will be repurposed from January 13 to 31 as an alternative practice venue for bandy players and speed skaters. These temporary arrangements will affect public use of Liisantori ice rink in the mornings, evenings, and weekends. Additionally, Narukerä and its partners will organize free, open skating events at Liisantori in the coming weeks.
The Sports Center ice rink will be handed over to event organizers on Monday, January 13, and will temporarily cease to be available for public, club, and academy use. During the closure, the rink will be prepared for the Talviklassikko with ice, boards, and spectator stands.
Bandy players and speed skaters will move their practices to the Liisantori artificial ice rink. Liisantori will be reserved for sports academy practices on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings from 8:00 to 10:00, and for club use mainly on weekday evenings from 17:00 to 21:00, as well as on weekend mornings and afternoons. The ice will be maintained daily for 30 minutes before the start of academy and club sessions. Skaters must leave the ice promptly when maintenance begins, and for safety reasons, the rink must be completely empty when the ice resurfacer is in operation. During time slots reserved for clubs, the ice rink is exclusively available to the designated club or group.
Outside of academy and club sessions, Liisantori ice rink will be available as usual to schools, kindergartens, and other users. Academy and club schedules, as well as maintenance times, are listed in the city’s Timmi reservation system, where users can easily check when the ice rink is open for public skating. Narukerä will also organize open skating events during its reserved time slots, and these too are listed in the Timmi system. Additional details about the events can be found on the Narukerä’s social media channels and website.
– The two-day Talviklassikko between Pori Ässät and Rauman Lukko is a major showcase of Satakunta’s capabilities, and it is fantastic that the city can help make this historic event a reality. In cooperation with the regular users of the artificial ice rink, we have found a temporary solution that accommodates everyone, allowing clubs to continue their training at Liisantori while also leaving time for public skating, says Petteri Lahti, Head of the Sports Department.
More information about Liisantori artificial ice rink can be found here. Regular public and club use of the Sports Center and Liisantori artificial ice rinks will resume on Saturday, February 1.
