Teemu Muurimäki’s unique gowns will take over the Satakunta Museum in spring 2025

Teemu Muurimäki – Quarto di secolo – A Quarter Century of Unique Gowns exhibition April 26, 2025 – February 22, 2026 at the Satakunta Museum.

Fashion and Costume Designer Teemu Muurimäki, originally from Pori, will open his first solo exhibition at the Satakunta Museum in April 2025. The exhibition celebrates Muurimäki’s impressive 25-year career, presenting a significant overview of Finnish fashion design. The exhibition is organized by the Satakunta Museum and Teemu Muurimäki.

One of Finland’s most renowned fashion designers, Muurimäki has been designing unique garments since the late 1990s. His designs have appeared at Finland’s Independence Day Ball, Finland’s Contest for New Music (UMK), Eurovision, and the Cannes Film Festival. His years at the top of the fashion world in France, Italy, and Australia – including work for Cymbeline Paris, Armani, Dolce & Gabbana, and Carla Zampatti – brought his creations to an international audience. In Finland, Muurimäki has also designed for Marimekko and Turo.

A comprehensive selection of Muurimäki’s abundant creations will bring a touch of glamour and sparkle to Pori, showcasing highlights from across his career.

“It’s an incredible feeling to look back on my career and realize the journey I’ve taken from Pori to the world’s top fashion houses. My breakthrough as a designer came with a striped silk organza gown adorned with seagull feathers I collected from Yyteri beach, which I created as a fashion student for the University of Art and Design Helsinki’s fashion show. This was my first structured gown, setting me on the path to designing unique garments. Since then, I’ve been fortunate to create gowns for red-carpet gala events, Finland’s Independence Day Reception, and major stages, dressing inspiring individuals and artists.

What better way to celebrate 25 years as a fashion designer than by presenting my first solo exhibition of unique pieces in my hometown, Pori. The Satakunta Museum will showcase a collection of pieces that hold great personal significance, including the organza gown with feathers from Yyteri,” Muurimäki explains.

The Satakunta Museum will feature exclusive pieces designed for Jaana Pelkonen, Katri Helena, Krista Kosonen, Jenni Vartiainen, and Atte Kilpinen. Also on display will be Käärijä‘s green and black leather outfit designed by Teemu Muurimäki, Elina Lario, and Vesa Silver, which captivated all of Europe in spring 2023. The exhibition will present nearly fifty pieces designed by Muurimäki.

“Teemu Muurimäki’s pieces are both contemporary and part of our cultural history. They reflect the spirit of the 2000s, and each tells a story about both the wearer and the designer,” notes Timo Nordlund, Curator of the Satakunta Museum.

During the exhibition, the Satakunta Museum will also host events where visitors can delve deeper into the world and history of fashion, design their own fashion creations, and hear more from Teemu Muurimäki about unique fashion and clothing design.
