The Talviklassikko brings hustle to Pori’s Isomäki and impacts local traffic
Ice hockey teams Porin Ässät and Rauman Lukko host the Talviklassikko ice hockey event on January 24–25, 2025, at the artificial ice rink in Pori. The event and its arrangements will affect traffic in and around the sports center area.
Construction of the event area has begun at the artificial ice rink, and Karhuhalli will be designated for event use starting January 21. Except for the event areas (marked in yellow on the map), the Isomäki area will remain accessible for movement and recreational activities until the event days. However, recreational use of the area is recommended to be reconsidered on the event days. At the end of this notice, you will find a summary and guidance for recreational activities during the event.
On event days, games will start at 7:30 PM on Friday and 5:00 PM on Saturday. The event area opens to the public 1.5 hours before the games begin.
Traffic Adjustments
The easiest way to attend Satakunta’s biggest winter event is by taking a bus directly to the event area. Fans traveling from outside Pori can use Onnibus, while a nonstop bus will shuttle between Pori city center and Isomäki.
If you are arriving at the event or the area during the event days, January 24–25, by car, please note that the following traffic arrangements will be in effect on January 24 from 4:00 PM to 11:00 PM and on January 25 from 2:00 PM to 9:00 PM:
- Eteläväylä will be closed from the Yläruukintie roundabout toward Isomäentie.
- Urheilutie will be closed from the Luvianpuistokatu intersection toward Isomäki. Only taxis and buses are allowed to enter Urheilutie from Luvianpuistokatu.
- Maamiehenkatu toward Metsämiehenkatu will be closed from the Tiilimäentie intersection for car traffic. Traffic control will be in place at the Maamiehenkatu and Tiilimäentie intersection. Access will be granted only for specific reasons, such as reaching buildings in the area, event parking, or tennis hall services.
During the event, access to the event area, parking, and departure will only be via Metsämiehenkatu. Traffic controllers will be on-site to guide vehicles.
The City Line routes or schedules of Pori’s public transportation will not change during the event, though minor delays are possible. The Waltti Mobiili app provides real-time bus tracking.
Parking and Nonstop Shuttle Services
A limited number of parking areas are reserved for event attendees from 2:00 PM on January 24 to 11:00 PM on January 25 (marked in blue on the map): Sports center gravel fields, Ice Hall Enersense Arena parking lots, Pori open-air swimming pool parking lots and Karhuhalli parking lots. Parking permits for these areas should be obtained in advance. Relocation notices will be placed in designated parking areas, and unauthorized vehicles will be towed. Municipal parking enforcement will be in effect during the event.
Detailed instructions and further information about nonstop shuttle services and parking permits can be found on the event information page on the Ässät website.
Recreational Activities During Traffic Adjustments
Until the event days (January 24 and 25), winter swimmers and visitors to Pori Forest can access recreational parking areas as usual. On event days, avoiding car travel to the area is advised.
Event-related exceptions at the sports center:
- Winter swimming at the Pori open-air swimming pool is suspended on Friday, January 24. However, it will be open on Monday, Wednesday, and exceptionally on Thursday, January 23, during week 4.
- Karhuhalli will not be available for recreational use from 8:00 PM on Tuesday, January 21, to the morning of Tuesday, January 28.
Tennis Hall services will remain available during event days, with traffic controllers assisting recreational users and ensuring proper parking.
Fortunately, Pori has no shortage of recreational opportunities. Up-to-date ski track conditions can be checked through Pori’s ski trail service, and quieter areas are recommended for skiing during the event. Excellent alternative jogging routes and peaceful natural retreats can also be found at Kirjurinluoto. Let’s enjoy this unique event in our own ways, as such an occasion hasn’t been seen in Pori for quite some time!
